Sourdough Bread Class

This Sourdough Bread Class offers comprehensive instruction for beginners and intermediate bakers, focusing on the art of sourdough baking and breadmaking techniques. The class runs in English from 9am to 2pm, lasting 5 hours, and provides a 100% hands-on experience where participants learn both hand mixing and machine mixing methods.

  • Students will learn how to mix enriched doughs suitable for various bread types.
  • Participants will learn to identify gluten development by examining "windowpane" thinness.
  • The class covers how to layer and braid a traditional babka.
  • Participants will practice cutting and shaping savoury sourdough breadsticks.
  • Instruction includes selecting the right bananas for banana bread recipes.
  • Techniques for retaining moisture and softness in bread for several days will be demonstrated.
  • The class enables bakers to create three different flavours from a single batter.
  • Participants will learn how to make a sourdough starter from scratch and maintain it in tropical climates.
  • The class addresses baking in both home and commercial ovens.

Participants will take home baked goods including a 500g braided babka, sourdough banana bread, chocolate banana bread, and banana walnut bread, along with 12 sourdough breadsticks and a sourdough starter.

  • Additional items include a full-color instructional booklet and bonus video tutorials for ongoing reference.

Note: The class contains gluten and is vegetarian friendly. It does not include pork, lard, or alcohol. Suitable for 4 to 8 participants, making it ideal for culinary enthusiasts interested in sourdough bread class experiences.

Booking policy

Bookings are final and non-refundable. If we cancel the class, you will receive a full refund. If you cannot attend, you may send a replacement student in your place at no extra charge. Rescheduling fees applies for non medical emergencies.

Online support

Exclusive invitation to private group only for students at Bespoke Bread.Β You will continue to receive guidance and assistance as you continue your baking journey at home. You will also have life time access to all tutorial videos.

Misc

For the purpose of the half day course, we will use 0.5% of instant yeast to help shorten fermentation time. We do this to maximise our time together during the workshop. When replicating recipes at home, you can choose to omit instant yeast. So that you can fully enjoy the benefits of long natural fermentation.

Dietary Concerns

All ingredients used in class is vegetarian. No pork. No lard. Sourdough loaves are vegan. Other bakes may contain eggs, butter and dairy products. Please inform us if you have dietary concerns.Β 

Skills Future

Class isΒ notΒ skills future accredited.We would have to extend the class beyond 7 hours and markup the price by 35% in order to qualify for funding. We simply don't believe in wasting your time and money to learn baking.Β 

Booking Disclaimer

All confirmed bookings are non-refundable.Β You may transfer to another class that is occurring within 60 days from the original class or send a replacement participant. To transfer to another class, please give notice at least 5 days before the start of class.Β  No refunds will be given for unattended classes. Classes may be postponed before or on class day if instructor is unwell. In the event that class is cancelled, an email will be sent to inform of the cancellation. A full refund will be given.
