Class description

Japanese Bread Class Shokupan

This Japanese Bread Class offers a practical, hands-on experience focused on baking authentic Shokupan, a traditional Japanese white bread. The class is suitable for beginner to intermediate participants and conducted in English from 9am to 2pm. It involves machine mixing of Shokupan dough, with an emphasis on easy-to-follow shaping techniques and dough marbling methods. Participants will learn to bake Shokupan in both home and commercial ovens.

The class includes the preparation of various breads and confections such as colorful Melonpan (minimum 3 pieces), original Shokupan loaves (minimum 1 piece), and marbled Shokupan loaves (minimum 1 piece). Each student receives a full-color booklet containing detailed instructions and recipes, along with bonus video tutorials for further guidance.

The workshop is designed to provide comprehensive skill development in Japanese bread baking, ideal for participants interested in expanding their baking repertoire with a focus on traditional and creative Shokupan techniques. This class is suitable for those who want to learn authentic Japanese bread-making within a collaborative environment.

The ingredients used do not include pork, lard, or alcohol, aligning with dietary preferences. However, the class contains gluten, dairy, and eggs, and is limited to 4-8 participants for adequate hands-on engagement. No specific equipment is required beyond basic kitchen tools, as dough mixing is done with a bread machine, and baking is performed in standard ovens.

All ingredients used in class is vegetarian. No pork. No lard. Sourdough loaves are vegan. Other bakes may contain eggs, butter and dairy products. Please inform us if you have dietary concerns. 

Skills Future

Class is not skills future accredited.We would have to extend the class beyond 7 hours and markup the price by 35% in order to qualify for funding. We simply don't believe in wasting your time and money to learn baking.
